Advanced Educational or Training Scholarship

Sponsored by Pelion Surgical

The American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses (ASORN) offers two $750 scholarships each year. Individuals wishing to apply for the scholarships must submit a completed application form. Scholarship recipients are to use the funds for furthering their ophthalmic career goals in a formal educational or technical program, preferably a degree program. ASORN does not require scholarship recipients to apply the funds to courses or work toward a degree in nursing, or toward a degree leading to technician status or certification. However, the Awards Committee will give additional consideration to applicants in a nursing degree program or a technical degree or certification program. Applicants must be furthering their formal education or training in a nursing- or health-related field and must show how this will enhance ophthalmic patient care.

Individual Qualifications

  • Active membership in ASORN for at least one year prior to application.
  • Registered or licensed practical nurse or ophthalmic medical personnel, actively working in the ophthalmic health care field for a minimum of two years.
  • Not a current member of the ASORN Board of Directors.
  • Enrollment in an approved formal educational or training program or acceptance by such a program.

Use of Monies

  • Scholarship recipients must use monies awarded to further education or training that advances the individual's career goals and can be expected to improve care for ophthalmic patients.

Selection Process

  • The Awards Committee will review entries and select the scholarship recipients based on information provided by applicants, including their professional statements.

Deadline for Application

  • All applications must be received at ASORN headquarters no later than June 1 of the current year.

Recognition

  • The President of ASORN will notify the winning scholarship recipients.
  • The scholarship recipients will be formally recognized at the ASORN Annual Meeting.
