Purpose
The purpose of the Edna Ashy Award is to recognize the contribution an ASORN member is making to expand ophthalmic nursing knowledge and literature.
Award
The winner will be awarded $750 and a silver bowl, and will be recognized during the Annual Meeting. The winner will present their winning entry during the Annual Meeting. The presentation should focus on the rationale for selecting the project, goals of the project, and a highlight of the nursing focus of the project.
Acceptable Entries
All entries must be original and may include, but are not limited to:
- publishable articles
- research studies
- projects
- community service projects
- educational materials
Individual Qualifications
- Active member of ASORN for at least two years
- Registered nurse, actively working in ophthalmic nursing for a minimum of two years
Nomination
Applicants may be nominated for this award as follows:
- Self nomination – applicant submits entry on their own
- Nomination by another – applicant is nominated by another individual, who then notifies the nominee; nominee accepts nomination by submitting the required application form on their own, and complying with the entry requirements.
Entry Requirements
Applicants submitting entries for consideration must:
- omit specific names referring to particular practice settings, institutions or employers (i.e., "our hospital" or "our outpatient surgery center" should be used in place of the proper names)
- sign a Letter of Transmittal form granting exclusive publishing rights of the entry to ASORN; if the applicant has published the entry elsewhere, the appropriate release must accompany the submission
- have completed the submitted entry within the previous two calendar years
- present the project at the Annual Meeting in the year in which the award is made
Application Procedure
- Send a completed application form letter of transmittal, biographical data form, and financial disclosure to ASORN headquarters
- Submit five hard copies and one of the entry on disk or CD-ROM
(with author's name on the title page only). Applicant should include
the following information:
- purpose for undertaking the project
- goals for the project
- objectives of the project.
Selection Process
The Awards Committee will judge masked entries on the following points:
- relevance to ophthalmic nursing
- clarity of project purpose
- clarity of project goals
- clarity of project objectives
- scholarship
- originality and creativity
Deadline for Application
All applications must be received at ASORN headquarters by June 1 of the current year.
