1. Abstracts may be submitted by one or more persons, with at least one being a member or affiliate member of ASORN. In addition, at least one person must have or be pursuing an advanced degree.
2. Topics must be related to ophthalmology or ophthalmic nursing and address the clinical, educational or administrative aspect of the profession.
3. Projects must be in progress or proposed to begin no later than 6 months after the applicant submits the grant proposal.
4. Author(s) of the winning abstract will be awarded $300 when the proposal is accepted or when the project commences, whichever is later. The project will be presented at a future Annual Meeting by one person who is a member or affiliate member of ASORN and who is registered for the meeting. In addition, ASORN reserves first right of publication in Insight. Author(s) may be asked to submit updates on the status of the research as it progresses.
5. Research grant proposals must include the following:
- Abstract of no less than 50, and no more than 300 words, summarizing the research problem, the purpose of the research and the proposed research method, including statistical procedures planned.
- Description detailing and defining the problem or question being addressed by the proposed research.
- Description detailing the purpose of the proposed research.
- Statement of the relevance to ophthalmology or ophthalmic nursing.
- Summary of the literature review.
- Description of the proposed research methodology (the research design, sample, instruments, and statistical procedures).
- Copy of an application to and/or approval from the appropriate institutional review board (IRB approval must be received and forwarded to ASORN headquarters before the grant will be awarded).
- Timetable of the project (start date, present status, expected or estimated completion date).
- Budget, including what portion of the project the grant will be used to support).
- Curriculum vitae of the person(s) submitting the research proposal.
6. Research grant proposals may be submitted at any time, but only one grant will be awarded each calendar year. If a proposal is received after that year's grant has been awarded, the proposal may be considered for the following year.
