President's
Message
I
hope you are enjoying the longer and warmer days of summer.
In just a few short months we will be meeting in San Francisco
for our Annual Meeting. The programs have already been mailed
and I hope you are making plans to join us for this year’s
exciting presentations.
In planning for this year’s meeting we met different
challenges than in previous years. Meeting sponsorship and
corporate support has certainly been impacted by changes in
the pharmaceutical and industry regulations and also due to
our lagging economy. The Board of Directors has strived to
meet all of the requirements of our ANCC accreditation, yet
still provide an Annual Meeting program that is stimulating
and cost-effective for the members of our organization. We
are very proud of the program that the Planning Committee
s planned for us and I strongly encourage you take advantage
of this wonderful educational opportunity. Thank you Rose
Strong, Barbara Ann Harmer, Diane LaRosa, Joy Bankert, Carol
Mathews and Cathy Henning!
Other ways in which the Board of Directors has worked in securing
support for our organization is through our collaboration
with industry leaders and by working with other organizations
within the ophthalmic community. This year we have reached
out to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American
Academy of Ophthalmic Executives (AAOE), and the Joint Commission
on Allied Healthcare Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and
offered our support and desire to work together with their
memberships. The response has been positive and we look forward
to working more closely together in the future.
Another way that we strengthen our organization is by collaboration
with other leaders in the ophthalmic community. I am very
pleased to announce that ASORN has entered into a collaborative
partnership with LocalEyeSite (LES), the premiere online destination
for ophthalmic professionals. We share a common goal with
LES by supporting education, professionalism and advancements
in the quality of eye care. ASORN and LES will work together
in a collaborative effort to raise awareness of our organizations
and to provide support and resources in the ophthalmic community
to our members. I urge you to go to the LES website at http://localeyesite.com
and take advantage of their free registration. It will allow
our members to view career opportunities, see continuing education
offerings, view current eye care and industry news and participate
in the “Idea Exchange” for professional information
exchange.
On behalf of the Board of Directors I welcome the LocalEyeSite
Team as our partner in promoting excellence in ophthalmic
education and patient care.
I hope you are enjoying BLINK and our more frequent communications
with the ASORN membership. Please feel free to contact me
with any thoughts or suggestions.
With my Best Regards,
