On-call Technicians
The Iowa Lions Eye Bank staffs several technicians who provide
coordination and recovery after business hours, weekends and holidays.
Cindy
Reed, R.N., Ph.D, began
work as Executive Director of the Iowa Lions Eye Bank on August
2, 2004.
The Executive Director is responsible for providing management,
leadership, and direction for all functions of the eye bank. This includes personnel,
public relations, finances, and education.
Ms. Reed received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the
University of Iowa in 1978 and received
a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of Iowa
in 1981.
She brings to the job 21 years of experience as consultant, director,
executive director, and chief operating officer for behavioral
health organizations. |
Janice
Reiter is the Administrative Assistant for the Iowa Lions Eye
Bank and has been with the Eye Bank since March, 1992. Prior to
that, she was an elementary school teacher. Jan's responsibilities
for the eye bank are to provide technical and administrative assistance
in the daily operations. |
Kathy
Barnhart, RN, is an Education Coordinator for the Iowa Lions
Eye Bank and has been with the Eye Bank since early 2002. She provides
hospital and public education programs for the eastern third of
Iowa. She also works to establish positive relationships between
other donor organizations, funeral directors, healthcare providers
and Iowa State Patrol. Before joining the Eye Bank team, she was
a transplant coordinator for an insurance company and a disability
and wellness coordinator for a company in Iowa City. |
Katie Charter, MA, is the Regional Manager of the Ames Satellite Office. She
provides hospital and public education programs for the central third of Iowa
and began working for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank in November of 2005. Ms. Charter has a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations with a minor in journalism from the University of Northern Iowa; She has a Master of Arts Degree in Communication with an emphasis in Health Communication from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. |

Carol Kempf began working as a Clerk II for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank in September of 2003. |
Garret Locke began working as technical director for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank on September 22, 1999. He previously worked for the Northwest Lions Eye Bank in Seattle, WA where he received his eye bank technician certification (CEBT) from the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) in 1998. He graduated with a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Washington. His primary role is to manage the technical operations and staff of the eye bank and participate in education around the state. Garret is currently an eye bank inspector and member of the EBAA’s Accreditation Board, Technician Education Committee, including many subcommittees, is on the Meeting’s Committee Task Force and is a member of Vision Share’s Quality Assurance Committee and Tissue Distribution Committee. In 2001, he joined the UIHC Lions Club and has served on their Board. |
Deb O'Meara is an Education Coordinator for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank and has been with the Eye Bank since December 2002. As Education Coordinator, Deb's primary focus is to provide hospital and public education programs for the western third of Iowa. She also works to establish positive relationships between other donor organizations, funeral directors, healthcare providers and Iowa State Patrol. Before joining the Eye Bank team, she most recently worked in the Cornea Service of the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. |
Greg Schmidt, Laboratory Manager, began working in the Eye Bank lab as an Eye Bank Clinical Technician in March of 2000. Greg most recently worked as Chief Technician in the Dialysis Unit at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Mount Mercy College and served as a meteorologist in the U.S. Air Force. |
Adam Stockman began working in April of 2006 as a donation coordinator for the Iowa Lions Eye Bank. He is responsible for obtaining consent for donation from families, performing tissue recovery, coordinating recoveries and evaluating/placing tissue for surgeries. |
