Educational ActivitiesASORN provides a variety of educational opportunities for its members.
Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting each fall. Multiple educational sessions featuring internationally recognized speakers and covering a wide range of topics, are offered over a three-day period. ASORN’s meeting registration includes registration for the AAO general sessions and entrance to the exhibit hall. One day registration is also offered. Annual Meeting registration information and programs are automatically mailed to all ASORN members. (See Annual Meeting Hints)
Regional Meetings
Regional Meetings are periodically offered in different regions of the United States. These educational sessions are generally one- or two-day programs, featuring multiple topics with speakers from the local area. Sometimes ASORN co-provides these educational programs with other individuals or organizations. Co-provided programs are planned and implemented jointly and all parties involved work closely throughout the process. Meeting announcements are mailed to members who live in or near the geographic area of the activity.
Independent Learning Activities
ASORN offers multiple opportunities for independent learning. Each issue of the journal, Insight, includes one continuing education article for which nursing contact hours may be obtained. The articles are also often submitted for JCAHPO approval. The post-tests may be submitted any time within a one-year period for JCAHPO credits; for nurses the time varies depending on the material. Check each article for deadlines. These articles will also be available on ASORN’s website. Sometimes the continuing education credits for independent learning activities are free to members, but often there is a fee.
Additionally, all of the books that ASORN publishes also offer opportunities for earning continuing education credits. The books include post-tests that can be used for self-study or that can be submitted for nursing contact hours, and in some cases, for JCAHPO credits too. The books may be ordered through Kendall/Hunt Publishing.
