Organizational Structure

  • Membership – provides the financial base and organizational strength; serves as the source of ideas, growth, service, and leadership.
  • Board of Directors – functions as the governing body, guided by direction from the membership; serves as a liaison to local chapters, organizations, committee chairs, and work group leaders; directs the work of the administrative staff.
  • Administrative and Support Staff – provides support for the Board of Directors, member communications, educational activities and meeting planning; serves as resource to entire organizational structure.
  • Standing Committees – provides the structure for the ongoing business of the organization with assistance and guidance from the Board of Directors; includes:
    • Approver Unit – oversees the approval process for educational offerings submitted by other entities for nursing contact hours.
    • Provider Unit – coordinates all educational activities that the organization provides and co-provides.
      • Annual Meeting Program Planning Committee – assists the Annual Meeting Director with the planning, development, and implementation of the Annual Meeting.
      • Regional Meeting Committee – plans, develops and implements Regional Meetings.
    • Membership Development – includes the activities of Awards/Recognition, Exhibiting at Other Meetings, and Recruitment/Retention.
      • Awards/Recognition – encourages candidates and applicants for organizational awards; selects recipients based on specific criteria.
      • Exhibits – disseminates information about the organization.
      • Recruitment and Retention – develops programs and information to increase and sustain the membership of ASORN on an ongoing basis.
    • Editorial – provides operational and editorial support for ASORN’s journal, Insight; solicits, reviews and approves articles and information for the journal.
    • Publications – leads the direction for current and future goals related to all of ASORN’s publications, identifies publication needs for the organization, establishes timelines for publication revisions
    • Nominating – identifies qualified members to run for elected positions as set forth by the Bylaws.
    • Resource Development – develops and identifies resources and relationships with a reciprocal potential for growth and development; works with the corporate affiliates.
    • Work Groups – serves as needed to complete special or short-term projects or tasks as they arise.  These groups start and end as their particular tasks or work is identified and completed.  Examples to date: 25th anniversary, website, evidence-based practice, core curriculum, hospitality, informational exhibit and bylaws.
