Seventy-five commented about their answers. Those who
thought the procedure should be retained gave these reasons: 1) physicians
sometimes use it in the OR, 2) may be used in an emergency situation, 3) may be
used on volunteer/mission work, 4) good to know what it is even if not used
often, 5) important to know how it works and how to take care of it in case it
is needed/used, 6) if retained, explain that it is not widely used today. Those
who thought the procedure should be eliminated from the revised manual
commented that the procedure is totally outdated and not used anymore, even on
volunteer/mission work because the tonopen is used.
