Do your cataract surgery patients self-medicate at home to dilate the operative eye before arrival?

Two hundred fifteen ASORN members responded to this survey.
The majority of respondents (93%) do not have the patient self-medicate at home for dilation or oral sedation.
Of those facilities that do self-medicate (15):
- only 2 cases were cancelled for a failure of the patient to properly self-medicate.
- only 2 have the patient self-medicate with oral sedative agents.
- 11 were ophthalmology-only facilities
- 8 were hospital ASCs
- 6 were office-based ASCs
- 3 were free-standing ASCs
