Award Criteria

Purpose
ASORN is launching a new award, sponsored by Alimera Sciences, for ASORN members. If you have worked through a natural disaster, weathered the storm of a personal or professional diabetic or other medical crisis or have been affected by a military deployment, we invite you to share your story with other ASORN members.
Award
Two (2) winners will be awarded Annual Meeting registration fees valued at approximately $450 and a certificate. Award recipients will be notified in advance and announced at the Annual Meeting. A representative for Alimera Sciences, Inc. will announce the winners during the meeting.
The recipient’s winning entry may be published in ASORN’s journal, Insight, and/or by Alimera Sciences.
Acceptable Entries
All entries must be original and may include, but are not limited to:
- Publishable articles
- Research or case studies
- Projects
- Community services
- Educational material or tools
- Program development
All entries must focus on the care and management of the ophthalmic patient during a Medical or Diabetic Crisis, Natural Disaster, or Military Event.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be ASORN Members or Affiliate Members.
- Applicants must develop a research project, case study, tool, or article that will be beneficial to the ophthalmic health care provider in their care and management of an ophthalmic patient during a medical or diabetic crisis, natural disaster, or military event.
- Each submitted entry must be an original work.
- Each submitted entry must be submitted as a final, written manuscript that meets the criteria for publishing.
- Manuscripts must be 500 words or greater (typed and double-spaced). References must be cited if applicable.
- All authors or project members must be identified and must give their permission for copyright ownership of manuscripts to ASORN and Alimera Sciences, Inc., in the event the work is published.
- Photographs are accepted. Consent or written permission of individuals photographed must accompany the final manuscript.
- Applicants may not be employees of Alimera Sciences, Inc. ASORN Board Members are not eligible.
- Submission of a disclosure form is required as part of the application.
Application Procedure
- Send a completed application form, Letter of Transmittal form, and a disclosure form
- Submit five hard copies and one of the entry copy on disk or cd-rom (with author's name on the title page only). Applicant should include the following information:
- purpose for undertaking the project
- goals for the project
- learning objectives of the project.
- Required forms and complete details are located on the ASORN website at: www.asorn.org. Select “Scholarships, Awards, and Grants”.
Selection Process
The Awards Committee will judge masked entries on the following points:
- clarity of project purpose, project goals and learning objectives
- applicability
- value to the ophthalmic community or to the patients
- accuracy and organization
- originality and creativity
- timeliness
Deadline for Application
All applications must be received by ASORN on or before September 2nd of the current year.
