Obituaries

Gardner D. Phelps, 89, died November 25, 2000. Dr. Phelps graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1936. He was the father of Dr.Charles D. Phelps who was head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa in 1984 until his death in 1985. Dr.Phelps was also father of ophthalmologist, Dr.Gary K. Phelps.

 
Dr. Martin Koke Dr. Martin P. Koke, 89, passed away on October 17, 2000, in Point Loma, California. He was a resident in ophthalmology at the University of Iowa in 1941 under Dr.C. S. O'Brien. In 1959, Dr. Koke was the founding chairman of the San Diego Eye Bank, which is now one of the largest in the United States.
Dr. Arthur Charles Wise, 86, died Saturday, April 21, 2001. He completed his residency in 1954 under Dr.Alson E. Braley and began his ophthalmology practice in downtown Iowa City. In 1960 he was one of the founders of Towncrest Medical Center in Iowa City where he practiced until his retirement in 1984. Dr. Art Wise
