University of Iowa College of Medicine, UI Health Care make changes in leadership
As part of a reorganization of University of Iowa Health Care leadership, Dean Robert P. Kelch has been formally appointed as director of UI Health Care, and has announced that he will step down as dean of the College.
The reorganization follows the recent announcement by UI Hospitals and Clinics CEO R. Edward Howell that he will leave the UI for a similar position at the University of Virginia.
Kelch will continue to serve as dean until a replacement is chosen. The search for the new dean of the College will proceed in tandem with the search for a new director and CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Both the new dean of the College of Medicine and the director and CEO of UI Hospitals and Clinics will report to Kelch in his capacity as vice president for statewide health services and director of UI Health Care. The new dean will also report to Provost Jon Whitmore on academic matters.
"While I have enjoyed my role as dean of the College, I see this change in leadership structures as an opportunity to accelerate the vision of University of Iowa Health Care and further strengthen this extremely successful partnership between the hospitals and clinics and the College," Kelch said.
Kelch’s appointment as director of UI Health Care took effect December 20, 2001, as did two other high-level appointments.
Ann Madden-Rice will serve as interim director and chief executive officer of UI Hospitals and Clinics while the University conducts a national search for Howell’s successor. Rice is currently associate director and chief financial officer of UI Hospitals and Clinics.
Dennis M. Domsic was named associate vice president for statewide health services. He will be the senior staff person in the office of the vice president for statewide health services and will oversee UI Health Care’s financial and administrative functions. Domsic will retain his title and duties as associate dean for finance in the college.
