FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Golf Tour Will Benefit Iowans

Amateur golfers from across Iowa will have an opportunity to play in a statewide tour sponsored by the Lions Clubs of Iowa. The Iowa City tournament will be held at Finkbine Golf Course on July 12.

New Hawkeye wrestling coach, Tom Brands, will help the Iowa Lions with the Iowa City stop of the Lions Golf Tour. The announcement was made by tournament chairperson, Jane Duvall. “We are excited that Coach Brands will be able to work with us this year,” said Duvall. “This will be a great opportunity for people to meet him at one of his first public appearances as the new coach, have a great day of golf, and help the Lions programs at the same time.”

Duvall explained that the proceeds from the tournament fund programs that provide vision and hearing services for Iowans. "The money raised from this golf tournament and the other tournaments being held throughout the state, help provide the latest research techniques to the hearing and vision programs that the Lions of Iowa support," Duvall said.

The tournaments will be played on the state's finest courses, such as Finkbine, and will be supervised by Iowa Section PGA professionals and managed by Lou King & Associates. The tournament will be played under a "scramble" format, which allows players of all skill levels to participate.

Golfers can win a car for a hole-in-one shot and will have opportunities to win other prizes. Golfers will also receive free lunches from Hy-Vee in Coralville and gift bags for their participation.

A substantial portion of the tournament entry fee will be tax deductible, since proceeds fund programs supported by the Iowa Lions Foundation, such as the Iowa Lions Eye Bank, which helps restore sight to Iowa's blind and visually impaired through corneal transplantation and "Coming to Your Senses," which provides early screening of vision and hearing for preschool children. Both of these programs are supported by partnerships between the Lions of Iowa and the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

Over 11,000 Lions and Lionesses, representing nearly 400 clubs in the state, support sight and hearing programs in their own communities through the Iowa Lions Foundation. The tournament entry fee is $125 per player and hole sponsorship is available for $1,000, which includes a foursome’s entry fee.  Registration and lunch start at 11:00 AM-12:30 PM.
