The C. S. O'Brien Library staff cannot answer reference questions from the general public. The general public may use library materials on site but may not remove materials from the library. A photocopy machine is provided so that removing materials should not be necessary.

For Department of Ophthalmology personnel, books circulate for 4 weeks, reference materials and bound journals may be checked out overnight, current issues of journals may not be taken from the library. Circulation records are not confidential. If a book you need desperately is checked out, the librarian will contact the person who has it and request they return it.

You are responsible for replacing lost library materials checked out to you. The O'Brien Library is not affiliated with the University of Iowa library system. The Hardin Library for the Health Sciences is also on campus. Ophthalmology Department staff have borrowing privileges from Hardin or any other University Library using a University of Iowa staff ID card.
