Intended Audience and Purpose: This conference will provide the optometric practitioner with information that will assist him/her with diagnostic dilemmas and patient questions that are encountered daily. This activity will also bring the optometric practitioner up-to-date on what is felt to be the standard of ophthalmic care in Iowa.

Educational Objectives: Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

  1. Discuss management of age-related macular degeneration.
  2. Explain expected treatment options with stem cells for inherited eye diseases.
  3. Identify ophthalmic conditions requiring ultrasound assessment.
  4. Discuss the assessment and management of ocular tumors.
  5. Recognize the differences between ptosis, brow ptosis and dermatochalasis.
  6. Explain the management of amblyopia.
  7. Identify current molecular testing options for inherited eye diseases.
  8. Discuss how to recognize and treat ocular surface disease.
  9. Explain the differential evaluation of a pale optic nerve.
  10. Discuss the benefits of treating glaucoma with travoprost.
