Fellow Graduates 2001

June 2001 Graduates

Molecular Ophthalmology

Victor N. H. Chong, MBChB, FRCS, FRVOphth, returned to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Helen Ruifang Sui, MD, is now with the Department of Ophthalmology at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Beijing, China.

Vitreoretinal Disease and Retina Surgery

Nancy J. Christmas, MD, joined the Retina Group of Washington in Fairfax, Virginia.

Kean T. Oh, MD, is now an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
The following fellows started their fellowship July 2000 and completed it June 2001, since the Iowa Eye News was last published.

Cornea and External Diseases

Roger M. Kaldawy, MD, is from Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his medical degree at St. Joseph University School of Medicine in Beirut. He then came to the U.S. and completed an internal medicine internship at Staten Island University, New York City, and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, New York. He is now an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science in the Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery Service at Boston University Medical Center.

Glaucoma

Christina A. M. Bruno, MD, received her BS from Grove City College, Grove City, Pennsylvania, and an MD from Penn State. She completed an internship at Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Eye and Ear Institute. Dr. Bruno completed her glaucoma fellowship in June 2001. Her professional plans are not yet finalized.

Pediatric Ophthalmology

Deborah S. Lenahan, MD, completed undergraduate and medical school degrees at the University of Alabama. She served an internal medicine residency at Jacksonville (Florida) University Hospital and then returned to the University of Alabama for an ophthalmology residency and retina fellowship. She was in private practice in Lexington, North Carolina, until coming to Iowa. After completing her fellowship, Dr. Lenahan joined a private practice at the Western Rockies Eye Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Swaminathan ("Meena") Meenakshi, MD, received her MBBS from the University of Madras Medical College and an MS in ophthalmology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Madras. She practiced privately for one year in India. Dr. Meenakshi completed a corneal research fellowship at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, an internship at Kettering Medical Center, and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville. She has taken up an academic position at Sankara Nethralaya, an eye hospital in Madras, India.
