Retisert Implantation

Here we show the implantation of the Retisert steroid implant. This device has 0.59 mg of fluocinolone acetonide releasing at a slow rate of about 0.4 mg per day for about 30 months. The device is expensive and our cost was $13,939.35 (US government pricing). In this case, the patient had severe intraocular inflammation requiring frequent intravitreal injections, so in the long run, insertion of the Retisert will probably be cheaper.
