Image Comments:

Because of the heavy pigmentation of this rural Indian, no details were evident in the photo without computer manipulation. The result is a poor presentation of the pathology easily seen with the slit-lamp: There is an adherent macular corneal scar at the site of perforation; the needling effect of the perforating injury is perfect with minimal lens residuum. The injured eye has useful vision with a +10.00 sphere. The corneal scar is too dense to be a nebula; it is not dense enough to be a leucoma; therefore, it is a macula.

+10 lenses are given to all aphakic patients - a contract with a local optician permitted the Clinic to give this proud possession to all post-op cataract patients. The contract price was 4 rupees - at that time the equivalent of $1.00 .
