*Dr. Caccamise has very generously shared his images of patients taken while operating during the "eye season" in rural India as well as those from his private practice during the 1960's and 1970's. Many of his images are significant for their historical perspective and for techniques and conditions seen in settings in undeveloped areas.

Surgically aphakic eye with glaucoma and hyphema

surgically aphakic eye with glaucoma and hyphema

The photo demonstrates a hyphema in an aphakic eye. During attempted intracapsular cataract surgery, the lens was luxated into the vitreous chamber. It was retrieved with significant loss of vitreous. The photo shows a scaphoid pupil. There is prolapse of the iris at 9 o'clock. Slit-lamp examination reveals corneal edema. In spite of glaucoma surgery, the intraocular pressure remains elevated. The eye has only vague light perception.
