The photograph is of three blind brothers. In toto, there are 5 stone-blind eyes and 1 with vague handmovements among them. There history is: In India, a common problem in the countryside is the matter of land disputes among neighbors. The three brothers were involved in such a dispute. In the dead of night, the neighbors invaded the home where the three brothers lived together. With a small sickle that is commonplace in rural India, the six eyes of the three brothers were quickly pierced. Phthisis bulbi developed in 5 of the eyes. One retained vague handmovements. When the eyes were examined by Dr. Caccamise, he found 5 horribly shrunken phthisical eyes and 1 with a mangled profoundly scarred anterior segment that was beyond repair.
