The ERG team was nominated 'Employee of the Month' in December 2018.

"I would like to nominate the ERG service, Wanda Pfeifer and Sajag Bhattarai, for employee of the month. Wanda and Sajag are the major reason we have one of the very best electrophysiology services in the country, especially for children……….. Wanda and Sajag always do an outstanding job for the electrophysiology needs of our department and they went above and beyond for our patients and staff during a short-staff situation."

Scruggs AWARDED heed fellowSHIP

PGY-4 Resident and EyeRounds Chief Medical Editor, Brittni Scruggs, MD, PhD, has been appointed as a Heed Fellow for the coming year. There were 24 fellows awarded this year. Congratulations, Dr. Scruggs!

The Heed Ophthalmic Foundation supports post-graduate studies in ophthalmology by granting awards to a limited number of clinical fellows to assist in their academic pursuits. This will require that 20% of Dr. Scruggs' Surgical Retina Fellowship (at OHSU) will be protected for research and grants $10,000 for academic pursuits.

Established by Thomas Heed in 1945, the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation has provided over 11 million dollars in funding and awarded over 1,100 fellowships to assist young men and women in pursuing postgraduate studies in ophthalmology. The appointed individuals receive a Merit Award of $10,000 and are recognized as Heed Fellows.

Windows 10 Roll-Out Initiative
All of the clinical machines have been upgraded to Windows 10.

OfficeMate Upgrade
OfficeMate was upgraded successfully last weekend. And we have replaced all of the optical shop laptops with new All-In-One computers. We still have another upgrade to complete once HCIS provides us with a virtual server. But for now, this was a big step in the right direction.

Bluetooth Tablets in PSC
The PSC has been equipped with Bluetooth tablets to drive their visual acuity.

Gonioscopy.org
Gonioscopy.org is getting a facelift. This website will have the same look & feel as EyeRounds.org.

Iowa Lions Eye Bank | Update

Submitted by Ashley Dockendorf-

Donate Life Month is off to a great start!
Thank you to everyone who contributed butterflies to Butterfly Memorial Wall at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

"To help raise awareness regarding donation, we have created the 2019 Butterfly Memorial. Each of the large butterflies represents an individual at St. Luke's in 2017 and 2018 that donated an organ, tissue and/or eye. Each of the small butterflies represents the 'life' that was saved or enhanced from the donor's organ, tissue and/or eye."

UnityPoint Health – Allen Hospital also celebrated the beginning of Donate Life Month with a flag-raising ceremony. The flag will remain up throughout the month of April.
