Seminar of Interest

Dr Rob Williams, Professor of Anatomy and Neurobiology at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, will be a seminar guest of Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Dr. Michael Anderson. Dr. Williams' talk "Systems Genetics of Eye Disease: Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, and Retinitis Pigmentosa" will be given in the Physiology Seminar room, 5-669 BSB at 9:30 AM on February 19th.

Dr. Williams specializes in complex trait analysis ñ uses bioinformatic approaches and animal models to study traits relevant to complex diseases. Many in Ophthalmology will find his work interesting. A copy of his CV can be found at http://www.nervenet.org/people/rob_cv.html.

Mixed Blessings

Ophthalmic Photographer, Brice Critser and his wife Lisa Koizumi are expecting their second child at the end of March. Lisa has very little vacation time accrued. Please consider making a donation to her catastrophic leave request. Any amount of time you have to spare would be greatly appreciated and would allow Lisa the time she will need to recuperate. The PDF request form is linked here. The recipient's name is Lisa Koizumi.

Honoring World War II Veterans

Patti Heitshusen is part of an organization from Williamsburg that is honoring WW II Veterans from Iowa County. More information may be found at www.iowahonortrip.org. To purchase tickets, please see Patt Heitshusen.

RSVP TODAY for Winter Party

PartyThe Winter Party is Friday, February 15th for the Ophthalmology Winter Party in the beautiful Main Lounge at the Iowa Memorial Union. The Main Lounge is the original ballroom in the IMU.

The evening will begin with a social “hour” from 5:30 – 7:00 and the dinner buffet will begin at 7:00.

The entertainment portion of the evening will begin with a performance/demonstration by members of the award-winning UI Swing Dance Club. Then, the “professional” dancers will offer group instruction to any of our staff members who want to learn some of the steps they have just seen. This will be your chance to learn the dips, the twirls, and just “Get Your Swing On”! The dancers specialize in East Coast Swing, the Lindy Hop, and Charleston. After the lesson portion is over around 9 or 9:30, the dance floor will be opened up for general dancing for the remainder of the evening – until approximately 11:00 PM.

Music and special effects lighting will be provided by Hot Flashes Sound and Light Show.

It promises to be a fun evening.

You must RSVP to Sherry Brown TODAY, Friday, February 8 if you and an adult guest plan to attend for the meal. Our payment to the IMU depends upon how many people attend for the meal, so please don’t respond “yes” if you don’t plan to be there for the buffet dinner.
