Dr. Aaron Brock RollerA. Brock Roller, M.D.

Dr. Roller originally hails from Carmel, Indiana. He graduated with a B.A. in Molecular, Cell, & Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1999. He remained there for two more years under the direction of Alan Zahler, PhD while conducting full-time research on the mechanisms regulating mRNA splicing in eukaryotes. He then received his medical degree with distinction in research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 2006. During medical school, he was awarded the Research to Prevent Blindness Medical Student Fellowship grant with which he undertook a year-long research fellowship under the mentorship of Gabriel Travis, MD at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute between his second and third years of medical school. There, he utilized his skills in molecular genetics to investigate gene therapy for inherited retinal diseases caused by mutations in abcr, rds, and rpe65 utilizing adenovirus, adeno-associated virus, lentivirus, and liposomal gene delivery in mouse models of these diseases. He completed a Preliminary Medicine internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2007, and then began his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Iowa in July of 2007.

He continued his education at the University of Iowa with a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery which he completed in June of 2012. He is now in private practice (retina specialty) as the Texas Retina Institute in Round Rock, Texas.
