The COMS Grading Scheme: Graded Features

Foveal geographic atrophy (GA) of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)

RPE atrophy appear as areas of deep reddish-yellow, or white lesions which are window defects on angiography.  Often larger choroidal lesions are seen within the lesion.  Only atrophy affecting the foveal center is graded.

Severity

None: not present
Definite: present (standard with mid-phase and late angiograms showing staining)
