Q1: If a patient presented with a family history of this same ocular finding, what extraocular condition might you be concerned about?

  • Thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.  These are iris flocculi, collapsed pigmented epithelial cysts of the iris margin.  Iris flocculi are usually sporadic but may be familial and associated with thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.  They rarely cause visual impairment unless they are very large and/or restrict pupil dilation.
