*Dr. Caccamise has very generously shared his images of patients taken while operating during the "eye season" in rural India as well as those from his private practice during the 1960's and 1970's. Many of his images are significant for their historical perspective and for techniques and conditions seen in settings in undeveloped areas.

Primary congenital glaucoma ( hydropthalmos) with central corneal leucoma with striae/folds ( Haab's Striae) in Descemet's membrane

This is the close-up photo of the left eye of the young boy with congenital primary glaucoma who was shown in the two other photos with his father. Although some ophthalmologists refer to buphthalmos (ox-eye) as synonymous with hydophthalmos, others including Dr. Caccamise prefer to reserve buphthalmos for secondary glaucoma in the young. Some of the causes would be vitamin A deficiency, smallpox, gonorrhoea, keratitis, uveitis, and other causes of anterior segment inflammatory pathology.
