Meibomian Glands

Oil glands withing the eyelid whose duct opens onto the eyelid. Secretions supply the outer portion of the tear film, preventing rapid tear evaporation.

These glands can be visualized using IR technique to determine if there is meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).
