Temporary keratoprosthesis (TKP)

This patient underwent repair of a ruptured globe injury and subsequently developed a complete retinal detachment. There was insufficient view through his injured cornea to perform a retinal detachment repair, so a temporary keratoprosthesis (TKP) was placed to provide posterior visualization. In this case, we used a Landers TKP which is made of PMMA and provides outstanding optics for the posterior segment. After completion of the retina procedure, the TKP was removed and a traditional penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) graft was placed.
