Postop Ziegler cautery procedure for spastic entropion

Image Comments:

During a good part of the 20th century, the Ziegler cautery operation for spastic entropion was popular. This patient was photographed shortly after the procedure had been completed. Under local anesthesia, a Hyfrecator needle is inserted through the skin into the orbicularis oculi and the current is applied. This is done in a series of applications along the length of the lid a few mms from the lid margin. The immediate effect is excellent. However, some surgeons felt that the effect was too frequently shortlived.
