Diagnosis: dendritic keratitis: after being scrubbed with ether on a q-tip

Image Comments:
The photo was taken in 1965: Standard treatment was to have the patient sit at the slit-lamp. Anesthetic drops were instilled. A Q-tip was dipped into a can of ether. The dendritic ulcer stained with fluorescein was then scrubbed from the cornea. All easily removed epithelium was rubbed off in the process. There was no damage to Bowman's membrane.

The dendritic ulcer that was prepared for ether cauterization.
