Dystrophia myotonica with cataracta complicata

This 40-year-old male patient with dystrophia myotonica was followed for several years as he progressively deteriorated. Initially his cataracts consisted of iridescent dots in the anterior and posterior cortex. At the time of the photograph the cataracta complicata had progressed to a partially intumescent stage. Dystrophia myotonica is also known as Steinert's disease.
