Image Comments:

The patient was status posttrigeminal section for tic douloureux. This results in corneal anesthesia. The cornea demonstrates a tendency for epithelial breakdown. In some facilities, a prophylactic lateral tarsorraphy is performed by the consulting ophthalmologist as soon as the neurosurgeon completes his operation and before the patient is removed from the operating table. The photo was taken by Dr. Caccamise in 1977.
