Category: Cornea
Diagnosis: rust foreign body in cornea

Image Comments:
The corneal foreign body can be seen as the screw portion of the light bulb reflex in the cornea. In treating this patient, the prime points are: 1. to remove the foreign body and any surrounding rust stain with as little damage to the cornea as possible, and 2. to make the patient as comfortable as possible with adequate cycloplegia, dark glasses, and oral pain medicine of adequate strength, and 3.to prevent infection and undue scarring by use of antibiotic drops/ointment with or without steroids as determined by the physician.
