Diagnosis: stained- herpes simplex I of the cornea

Image Comments:
The stained lesions have not yet coalesced into the typical dendritic pattern. Stained areas are close to the pupil and at 4:30 o'clock near the limbus. In general, herpes simplex above the umbilicus is Type I; herpes simplex below the umbilicus is Type II.
