*Dr. Caccamise has very generously shared his images of patients taken while operating during the "eye season" in rural India as well as those from his private practice during the 1960's and 1970's. Many of his images are significant for their historical perspective and for techniques and conditions seen in settings in undeveloped areas.

Vitamin A deficiency with left cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis(scrofula)
This young Indian male demonstrates the corneal stigmata of vitamin A deficiency during early infancy. In addition, careful inspection of the left cervical region near the ear will reveal a bulge. This is due to swollen tuberculous lymph nodes (tuberculous lymphadenitis/scrofula). At times these involved glands will ulcerate through the overlying skin and produce a fungating mass.
