Both Graduation Supplements Now Available
The second of two graduation issues of the Update is available.
This Department has had a long history of recognizing the important role that our families play in our lives. The graduation supplement is one way we recognize the accomplishments of those who support us behind the scenes.

Reception for Dr. Weingeist Scheduled for June 29th
The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences will have a reception for Dr. Thomas A. Weingeist on Tuesday, June 29th from 4-6pm. (see pdf flyer). Stop by for finger foods, cake and punch as we celebrate Dr. Weingeist's career and retirement. The event is open to all members of the Department as well as other staff from UIHC.
Iowa KidSight Receives Warren Coleman Honorary Award

Iowa KidSight is the recipient of an Iowa Lions Foundation Warren Coleman Honorary Award in recognition of commitment to service. The 2009 – 2010 Iowa Lions Clubs Partners-in-Service raised $1,000 to bestow the honor upon the Iowa KidSight program. A plaque representing the designation was accepted by KidSight Staff Members Wendy Cadena, Wanda Pfeifer, and Lori Short during the Iowa Lions State Convention on June 4. The Warren Coleman Honorary Award is the highest honor conferred by the Iowa Lions Foundation. It is named for longtime Executive Secretary-Treasurer Warren Coleman, who gave freely his time and dedication to the Iowa Lions Foundation and the programs for which it supports. Congratulations to everyone who contributes to carrying out the mission of the Iowa KidSight program!
Donation Establishes Iowa KidSight Excellence Fund
David Stoufer and Rachel Nicola have donated a significant monetary gift to establish the Iowa KidSight Excellence Fund. This endowment will provide unrestricted support for the Iowa KidSight program in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The donors are long-time members and supporters of Lions Club.
Leinfelder Awards Presented at Iowa Eye
Leinfelder Award winners for resident and fellow research were announced at the Iowa Eye meeting.
"Best Poster" was awarded to Gina Rogers, MD. "Best Resident Paper" went to Emily Birkholz, MD and
"Best Fellow Paper" to Juan Fernandez de Castro, MD.
